I am trying to determine the Prussian origin of my Arndt family. U.S. records indicate both Pommern and Posen as originations. These items were self-reported by my ancestor. Immigrants in the valley where the Arndts settled in Wisconsin are mainly from Posen (Jankendorf, Poznan, and Stettin areas), so Posen makes more sense for the Arndts’ origin. I have located nothing to prove one location or the other.
My American ancestors are Wilhelm Arndt (born 1839) and his wife Albertina Pranka (unsure of maiden name, contradicted on American records). Wilhelm has a sister, Rosalie (born 1848). She travelled to the U.S. unmarried and married Augustus Neuhaus in Wisconsin, U.S. His other sister is Wilhelmena (Arndt) Rohde (married to Wilhelm Rodhe prior to emigration). Wilhelm and Albertina emigrated in 1868. Wilhelm’s father is Gottlieb and his mother is noted as Louise Schwarz (on his 2nd marriage record and on Rosalie’s). This family was Protestant and spoke German, not Polish.
I have searched church records available to me online, but have had no luck locating records on the family in Prussia.
