I am trying to figure out the Bekanowski family. My direct ancestor Piotr Bekanoski (b 1832) born Orchowo, Mogilno, Posen, married Katarzyna Osinska ( b. 1837) in 14 Nowember 1859. I know he had a brother Jan. That’s as far back as I can go. I’d lke to know when they died, where they are burried, who any other realtives of his were. I know who all the kids are I think (I have eight on record).
On another note, I know that Jan had a kid, Ignacy. I know there was an Ignacy Bekanowski from Strzelno who was killed in World War 1 during the Greater Poland Uprising in 1918. Can’t seem to find out if the uprising Bekanoswki is the same one.
On to World War II and the Mogilno Massacre. Two defenders, Sylwester (37) and Szczepan (20) Bekanowski are among the first to fall. I’m trying to find out how I am related.
My great great grandmother Marcjanna Bekanowska (b 1862) married Jozef Nowak (b 1858) and had my great grandfather. We know my great grandfather as Harry Nicholas Over Bekanowski (b 11 Nov 1888 in Poznan). However, he was a politcal refugee who was vehemently anti communist and apparently out-spoken. He was being followed and may have altered his first name and at some point replaced his Nowak name for Over. This has been confirmed by two independent sources. He did retain the Bekanowski surname for some reason.
Any Bekanowski help is greatly appreciated.
