My great-grandmother Frieda Engelberg, later Frieda Kugelmass, received ‘swiadectwo przynaleznosci’ (certificate of affiliation) in Kolomya – then Poland, now Ukraine – in 1936 from the city council (zarzad miejski).
I am curious to find out how she could have gotten this document, given she herself was born in Leipzig, Germany in 1905.
Later on the basis of this document it seemed she and her family, including my grandmother, received Polish citizenship. So I am curious to find out what this process might have been like and of what it would have consisted, especially because they retained their citizenship when leaving Europe after WWII, and were not deprived of it like many were at the time.
Any help would be much appreciated!
