My mother’s grandparents came from Poland around 1908-1920.
My great-grandmother was Fagabluma Sokol and her sister was Gabrielle(Gaby) and their mother was Sara(a.k.a Sadie). They also had three brothers, but I do not have their names and they went to France and Germany.
I have family stories of them smuggling eggs across the Polish/ Russian border around that time, but I still do not know where the family was from. I do have a photo marked from Lublin, but in my research Lublin was too far from the border, so might have been the nearest large city.
My Great-Grandfather David’s last name seems harder to trace exactly. He was called David Paul when he went to the US. However, we know the name sounded like Folis or Folish. Could have been Foulis or Follis and he was born in 1888. He was conscripted and fled Poland in 1908, but we do have that he left from Malawa, Poland – the last place named on his entry and naturalization papers. He had two brothers Joseph and Zuric (or Zurich).
I am wondering if there is any insight into what the spelling of a last name close to this is and how I would go about finding out where exactly my family is from in Poland. Any help appreciated!
Thanks so much,
