My uncle, Tadeusz Ulrych, was born in Glinnik Mariampolski near Gorlice on 3 October 1920. I believe the family moved to Bitkow in the same year. His father Franciszek was an engineer from Trzebini near Krakow and his mother Wanda (nee Bilaszewska) was from near Tarnopol. Franciszek and Wanda met in Bitkow in 1914 and married in 1917 in St Mary’s (Maryacki) church in Krakow. I would very much like to know more about the family and whether there are any surviving relatives. All I know of my uncle’s time in Poland is that he went to school first in Bitkow and then in Stanislawow (now called Ivano Frankovsk). He started military service in Stanislawow (Officers Reserve School) and was with the 48th Infantry Regiment in Stanislawow when war broke out on 1 September. He fought in various parts of Europe and North Africa and was awarded the Cross of Valour with bar. In September 1946 he arrived in England where he married my Aunt in 1949. I think the area where my uncle lived became part of Western Ukraine in 1944/5. I don’t think my uncle ever returned to his home and lived in Norfolk, England
