Hello 🙂 I’m looking for information about my great great grandparents; Stephan Smola 1865 and Tekla (Thecla) MacZulak 1877. They came from Galicia to Montreal, Quebec Canada on june 2th 1907 on the SS Mount Temple. They joined the Greek catholic Catholic church of Saint-Michel in Montreal. Shortly after their arrival they had a forth baby named Roman 1911. They came to canada with 3 children. Janen 1905, Michal 1898 & my great grandfather William (Wasyl). Tekla was only 13 years old when she gave birth to Wasyl in 1890. Then there was 8 years in between his birth and the birth of his brothers Michal. Had she been a child bride? Why was there such a huge gap there? Their life has alway been a bit of mystery to us. They spoke Ukrainian and identified as Ukrainians but Wasyl’s naturalization papers say Polish and Helena’s (1889 his wife) Astro-Hungarian. I can’t seem to find any information on the town of Wertelka or the parish. It’s also a mystery that there are no other traces of them in Canada after their arrival. Did they maybe end up in an internment camp up north when the war began? My great grand parents Wasyl and Helena (Nolena) are buried in Montreal. But no traces of Janen, Michal or Roman.
If anyone has any information please reach out 🙂
